The Corona problem investigates the density of the unit disc within the maximal ideal space of H
∞(D), the Banach algebra of bounded analytic functions on the unit disc. This is equivalent to the solvability of the Bézout equation, which Carleson proved in 1962. This report introduces the origin of the Corona theorem, classical proof strategies, and its generalizations to matrices, operators, multiplier algebras, several complex variables, and Riemann surfaces. Finally, it discusses the Corona problem in the framework of quaternionic slice-regular functions.
